The first time I encountered the Black family was a warm summer day. I was at the beach as usual, playing my guitar, just trying to earn enough to buy something to eat.  A young boy about my age came up to me. He was a good looking guy with blonde hair and green eyes. Accompanying him was a shorter dark haired boy. The boy introduced himself as Jake Black and his dark haired friend as Ren. Jake was a strange guy. He flirted with me and tried to get my number. I tried to tell him I had no phone, but he thought I was trying to reject him. In the end he gave me a kiss and promised he would come back to steal me away. It was funny. He was trying to act cool, but everything he said came off as corny. Ren was obviously annoyed by Jake's every action, but he hid it from Jake.  Although I only spent an hour with these two I immediately fell for them. I told Jake I'd be waiting for him.

I didn't see them for over a month. I was on my way to find a place to stay for the night when I spotted two boys about my age. I would have just glanced at them and walked away, but taking a second look I realized it was Jake and Ren. Looking closer I also saw that there were two older and grungy looking men shouting at them.  I took a few steps forward, hiking up my hoodie. I watched as one of the men pulled out a knife, and I full on ran to the scene.  Maybe it was reckless of me, but I couldn't let those two get hurt. Besides they had much more to live for than me, I couldn't let it all be taken away from them like this.

By the time I reached them Ren had already been injured by the knife. Shit! I kicked the thug with the knife in the back. I gained both thugs attention immediately. I lead them away from Jake and Ren.  When I was a couple yards away, I shouted to the boys, telling them to run. Jake was hesitant, he must of realized it was me, despite my grungy disguise of men's clothes. Ren whether he realized it was me or not, knew what he had to do. He took Jake's hand and dragged him away. They ran.

I lunged myself at the thug with the knife, making sure he wouldn't chase after Ren and Jake. It was a stupid idea.  I felt a horrible sharp pain in my abdomen. The thug had stabbed me. I ripped myself away from his blade and tried to continue to fight, but it was no use. I fell to the ground paralyzed in pain.  I felt the warm blood flood from my wound.  I clenched my stomach, trying to put pressure on the wound, but I felt so weak. The thugs laughed at my horrible failure of heroism. They began to search my pockets for money. They felt my chest, and chuckled favorably when they discovered I had breasts. I coughed tasting the blood in my mouth. They began to fondle me. I stared at the night sky; it began to grow darker and darker until finally…it was black.

Suddenly everything was white. No, I blinked as the room came into focus. I was in the hospital. No. I looked around the room. It looked similar to a hospital, but it wasn't one. I was hooked up to machines and an IV, but the room had no windows. The floor was polished wood. It looked more like I was in someone's home. I carefully pulled myself up into a sitting position. I felt no pain or pressure in my abdomen. Strange, I thought. Shouldn't I be in pain? I looked at my IV, it must be morphine. I pulled up my gown to look at my stomach. It was wrapped in bandages. I touched it. It didn't hurt at all. Still curious, I began to unwrap my wound.

I hadn't heard anything, but I felt someone watching me.  I looked up to see a young man in a white coat and glasses staring at me. I froze, and then blushed when I realized he could see my underwear. I pulled my gown back down and pulled the covers over myself.

"Your name is Rose, is it not?" The man in the glasses asked me, as he checked my IV. I nodded as he took off the bandage covering the IV. He grabbed some gauze and tape, placing the gaze over the IV needle embedded in my skin. He quickly pulled it out and taped up the wound.

"Ow…" I mumbled holding my arm. He really wasn't a very gentle doctor. Wait a second, it hurt? I uncovered myself, once again lifting my gown to look at the bandages. The doctor guy didn't look away, but I was too distracted myself to care. Quickly I unwrapped the site of my stab wound. I gasped, touching my stomach. There was nothing. No wound, no stitch, not even a scratch. "What…?" I whispered to myself putting my gown back down. I looked at the doctor. He stared back at me with a blank face.

"So you really are unaware of what has occurred." He muttered, adjusting his glasses. I looked at him in confusion. "You've been out for three days. In that time, your body somehow went into a state of advanced cellular regeneration." He explained as he took my arm. He placed two fingers on my wrist, as if to feel for a pulse. "In other words, your body healed itself much faster than humanly possible."  I stared at him in shock. I was completely dumbfounded. Was this a joke? I laughed nervously, but he ignored it. No way, I thought, this guy must be crazy!

"Who are you?" I asked as he took out his stethoscope and placed it on my chest. Up close I could actually see the features his face. He looked much younger up close, maybe about twenty years old. He had dark green eyes and long eyelashes. He was quite handsome up close.

He stood up, placing his stethoscope around his neck. "My name is Jonathan Black." He answered adjusting his glasses again. Black, as in Jake Black? Was he related to Jake? Before I could ask he spoke again. "Unfortunately until I determine you are not a threat to human society I cannot release you back into the public." He said suddenly turning to walk away.

"W-What…?" I stuttered in surprise.

"Until I determine that you have no other supernatural powers, especially ones that can become a threat to humanity, I cannot release you from my hold." I stared at him, wondering if this was a joke.  He stared back with a serious expression.

"Whatever." I sighed. This was better than the streets so I couldn't really complain. "Uhm please just don't do weird experiments on me. That's all I ask." I told him clenching my blankets.

"Behave yourself and I will not have to do anything unpleasant to you." He told me, again completely serious. I sighed laying back on the bed. This guy was really not any fun at all. Could he really be related to that corny Jake? I looked at John. His hair was green, not even close to the color of Jake's.  No, he looked nothing like him. But that didn't mean they weren't related…

"Hey John, are you related to Jake Black?" I asked suddenly as John fumbled with some charts. He didn't say anything.  He didn't even look up at me. After filling out the charts he left without saying anything else. That was rude, I thought to myself. Oh well, I guess until he decides I'm not a threat he probably doesn't want to share personal information. Besides maybe they're not related. Maybe they just have the same last name. But something told me it wasn't just a coincidence. Something –maybe it was just a silly delusional fantasy—something told me I was meant to be here with the Black family.
